Ahmad Mammadli, the chair of an Azerbaijani pro-democracy group, has been sentenced to 30 days in prison by a district court in Baku, following his alleged abduction by plain-clothes police officers.

On August 31, 2022, the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan held their fourth meeting in Brussels with the mediation of the President of the European Council Charles Michel. Following the four-hour meeting, Michel called the talks “open and productive”. Reactions in Yerevan and Baku, however, were not as optimistic. The official statement released by the Armenian government outlined a general overview of the issues discussed, noting that “the next meeting of the leaders of the countries will take place in November.” Baku kept silent on the official level, but state sponsored media outlets aimed to show that Ilham Aliyev was not fully satisfied with the results.

France intends to open the eyes of the world community to the true nature of the Azerbaijani regime. Thus, the Azerbaijani dissident, blogger and activist Mirzali Mahammad said on his Facebook page that until October 27, when the Nantes-Karabakh football match is scheduled, posters and billboards will be placed in the city to convey the truth about terrorist acts committed by the Azerbaijani authorities in different cities of France.

Member of the board of the youth organization of the Musavat Party, Aziz Mamiyev, was detained on July 20 at a protest rally in Baku demanding the opening of the country’s land borders.

For more than 26 years, Vasif Talybov has been keeping Nakhchivan in a tight grip.
Those arrested during his reign were subjected to beatings and various tortures. Dissidents were forced into psychiatric hospitals. He also used his power to silence the independent media. Journalists and activists who criticized Talybov’s rule were subjected to pressure and arrests or were forced to leave the country.

In it, Azerbaijan ranks 154th out of 180 countries, between Belarus (153) and Russia (155) and only two places above Afghanistan (156). The other two countries in the South Caucasus, Georgia and Armenia are ranked 89th and 51th respectively.

The life of a simple Azerbaijani dictator Ilham Aliyev is hard. It was a difficult year, taxes, disasters, prostitution, banditry and a shortage in the army. Dissidents and oppositionists do not allow the country to be plundered easily!

Today’s European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) judgment in favour of an Azerbaijani journalist who faced a sex-tape smear campaign after investigating government corruption exposes the ongoing crackdown on freedom of expression in the country, Amnesty International said.

An Azerbaijani media-rights group has added its name to the list of organizations urging the government to release a hunger-striking blogger who was targeted with a new charge just weeks before his expected release from prison.
Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Human Rights Watch (HRW), and other watchdog groups, and The Washington Post’s editorial board have also demanded that 26-year-old Mehman Huseynov be freed.

A Baku district court issued an arrest warrant against Netherlands-based Azerbaijani video blogger and social media activist Ordukhan Teymurkhan, Radio Liberty reported last Friday relying on a source from the Prosecutor’s Office.
Teymurkhan is charged under three articles of the criminal code relating to calls for terrorism, mass riots and attacks against the state, the sentence for which is up to eight years in prison.
